Village Cricket Match 2006

Careful monitoring of the weather forecasts meant that for the second year running the Village Cricket Match was held on August Bank Holiday Sunday.  Despite some of the pictures showing a threatening sky, in the main the sun shone and there was just a gentle breeze; the rain held off until well after dark when the party was in full flow and no one cared!

Team A captained by Jonathon Tandy batted first with the two opening batsmen both being bowled for ducks.  However, despite this minor set back they soon got into their stride and with the help of good batting by Tom Daly and Russell Downing managed a very creditable score of 60 runs before the team had been bowled out in 12 overs,  Team B's demon bowler Alan having managed a hat trick.

Team B captained by Richard Edgington opened with Simon and Tasha at the crease.  Although Tasha was bowled Simon went on to score well over 20 runs and in accordance with the rules 'retired'.  At the end of Team B's 20 overs the score line was Team A 60 Team B 89 and it was time for tea!

The second innings was restricted to 10 overs each.  Team A slogged bat to ball and achieved a total of 103 runs, with all batsmen getting off the mark and scoring runs;  Russell Downing was again a star batsman having to 'retire' with over 20 runs scored.  Team B went in with a 15 run target to win.  Richard was bowled by Sam, Barry Smith was run out leaving Mark Foley and John Lawrence to smartly complete the rout of Team A, which they did quickly as the beer tent was calling!
