Parish News Apologies! Due to other pressures this site has not been updated for about 12 weeks for which I apologise; during the next few weeks the site will be brought back up to date. Please note the picture on the home page, supplied by Jonathan Symonds, of the village in the recent snow. Charity Harvest Festival Auction: in tha bar of the Swan Friday 9th October at 7.30 Village Cricket August Bank Holiday Sunday 2009 With their usual efficiency and enthusiam ladies and gentlemen of the village (and elsewhere) assembled on Saturday morning to errect the marquees, a grand job, thank you all. Sunday was bright to start with but as the match grew nearer the clouds gathered. However, despite it being a bit chilly and overcast the teams eventually assembled (i.e fell out of the pub) and the match started. Team captains, Richard Edgington and Jonathan Symonds, tossed a coin and Jonathan's team batted first. Aden Symonds, Ashley (Jonathan's new son in law) and team B whacked balls all over the field putting up a very respectable score. Unfortunately the same could not be said of team A. Despite being kitted out replendantly in every thing from face guard and (I am told) 'box' Graham must stick to the day job! Nick Hobbis was bowled by his father Tony with what can only be described as wicked glee. Team B won for the second year running, so team A must try harded next time! Thanks to everyone who helped. Chris and the committee for the organisation; the team of riggers who put up and dismantled the marquees; Richard and John for getting the field and pitch ready; the sandwich and cake makers and of course everyone who took part playing, watching, eating and drinking! A Result! Below is a report of a burglary where thieves kicked the door down. It is gratifying to report that the group of four were caught and have recently been sentenced to between 21 months and 3 years in jail. This was a maginificent effort by local policing teams, north and south Worcestershire and although Lou did not get back some of the highly sentimental items of jewelry it was nice to note that our local 'beat bobby' PC Tony Carter did refer to her as being a lovely lady - and I think anyone who knows Lou will agree with that! Thefts and Burglaries in the Parish There have been a spate of thefts and burglaries in and around the Parish. In the village items of equipment, including a trailer, have been targeted whilst there was a very recent house break-in in Berry Lane where the thieves kicked the front door in during broad day light! PC Tony Carter is our local 'beat bobby', he's based at Droitwich Rural East, Local Policing Team and can be contacted on 01905 725769 or email tony.carter@westmercia.pnn.police.uk. Please contact him if you see anything suspicious or starange vehicles in the area. Local Services Need a plumber? Bywater Farm Planning Appeal The Planning Inspector has dismissed the appeal by the various families to effectively create a traveller site at Bywater Farm. The reasoning appears air tight but they do have right of another appeal so watch this space. Old Photo's from the Swan Inn For many years in and around the bar area have been numerous photo's of customers (some sadly no longer with us) and events that have taken place. Very kindly I have been given all of these for safe keeping during the current refurbishment and am in the process of scanning some of them for this web site. Look for a new page 'Memory Lane'. The pictures that are not returned to the Swan will be kept by me or returned to those people who ask for them. The Gypsies at Bywater Farm At the High Court in London, on the 19th December, Mr Justice Mitting allowed Wychavon District Council's Appeal against a planning consent made by a planning inspector in February 2007 for a gypsy site on green belt land in Upton Warren. This is an important decision as had it been made against the Council it would have been very difficult to reject future planning applications by gypsies in green belt areas. Our thanks must go to Wychavon District Council, members and officers, who have doggedly fought this matter for a number of years. It remains to be seen if the gypsies have a further right of Appeal or if they will now have to remove the large mobile home that is on site. Credit Card Scam (CCS). On the dedicated page CCS you will find an email in full that I received 2nd December from the District Commander of West Mercia Police at Redditch. The scam is based on the crooks giving you a load of information, lulling you into a false sense of security and then getting you to part with the 3 number security code on the back of the card. DON'T DO IT - please read the email. Village Flood 20th July 07 saw the wide spread floods in Worcestershire and unfortunately one home (that I know about) in the village has been badly damaged by water from the river Salwarp. Below are pictures of the water meadow one taken on 21st July, the other on 21st May: what a difference 8 weeks make!
