Website.
The Doomsday Book was a statistical survey of England in 1086 - over a thousand years later the village of Upton Warren, mentioned in that book, still exists and thrives in the heart of rural Worcestershire. In 1086 the Doomsday Book tells us the area was 3 hides (a hide being about 120 acres), there were 7 villagers, 13 smallholders, a priest and 13 slaves. The mill paid a rent of 4 shillings (20p).
Today, the mill is still there, we share a priest and the entire parish has an electorate in the region of 270 souls - but no slaves! The Church and the pub remain focal points for a village and parish without a separate meeting hall; this site features both as they continue to help maintain the essence of this small but vibrant part of rural Worcestershire in the 21st century.
